Brendan Guiney was introduced by Neil Hanington. Brendan is the Executive Director of Infrastructure and Planning, Midcoast Water. Brendan is responsible, as part of his role, for the overseas aid that Midcoast Water gives.

2013 is the UN International Year of Water Cooperation.
Midcoast Water employs about 190 staff from two main depots, seven local depots and treatment sites.
Its mission is to manage the provision of sustainable water related services to meet our community needs. It contributed $305,000 to WaterAid Australia in 2012/3. It has “twinning” arrangements, established in 2012-3 with Samoa and Tonga water authorities, where the main activities are to:
Account for water and reduce water loss
Improve water quality
Introduce asset management principles for long term sustainability.
The twinning arrangement is assisted by the Asian Development Bank.
Some interesting statistics – 783 million people do not have access to safe water, 2.5 billion people do not have adequate sanitation.

National water week is in October 2013.
