It was with great pleasure that Gabriel Darzi was inducted into the Rotary Club of Taree. Gabriel is sponsored by Ashley Cleaver and Gabriel’s profession is that of
Restaurateur. He has been assigned to the Community Services Committee under the leadership of Laurie Easter. Gabriel gave his thanks to the Rotary Club of Taree and talked about when he first moved to Taree and how he had come to meet Ashley. Ashley had offered to assist Gabriel in feeling at home in Taree and so that is how Gabriel learnt about Rotary. Gabriel gave a special thank you to Ashley for all his help.
Montanna Dowden Public Speaking Contestant
Montanna did a trial run in a lead up to the public speaking contest. The actual Public Speaking Night has been moved to 4th November. Montanna’s speech was based on America going to war with Syria. Wayne Robards offered feedback afterwards on Montanna’s performance.
Rotary Car Observation Rally
Sunday provided the opportunity to meet with and to support Rotary’s fund raising efforts to support the maternity unit at the Manning Base Hospital. This special event was organized by Don Phillips, who set it up as an observation run, with 30 questions to be answered as we travelled down the Pacific Highway, along Godfrey Hill Road, the Lakes Way, through Failford, Nabiac and on to Krambach. We have come to know Don’s astute powers of observation, but if the answers were not hidden in an obscure spot on the side of the road, they were well and truly hidden in the cryptic nature of the question. For example, Q1 – where is the green frog? Q7 – is the blue oval to the left or the right?
On our return to Taree via Burrell Creek and Wingham, there were some trivia questions, including “name the NSW towns” – for example “one short on the cricket field” and “cheese takes a walk”. OK, so you want to know the answers.
Q1 - have a look at the top of the sign at the Cundle Motel
Q7 – blue oval? – Ford, therefore Ford’s Road
“one short on the cricket field” - Tenterfield
“cheese takes a walk” - Coonamble
As for the rest of the observation run questions, and the towns, and the song lines – sorry, you weren’t there so you missed out on what was a very enjoyable day. A big thank you for the organisation and for the food preparation goes to Don Phillips – well done.
