Past District Governor Laurie Barber OAM
Informing all Rotary members of:
The passing of Past District Governor Laurie Barber OAM. Laurie was known as Mr Rotary and had an enormous impact and influence on all of us that knew him. Behind that ‘cheeky’ smile was a heart caring and enormous wisdom. Laurie will be greatly missed. We send our deepest sympathies and condolences to Glenda and the family. A celebration of Laurie’s life will be held at Innes Gardens Memorial Park Crematorium Chapel, 12 Phillip Charley Drive Port Macquarie on Wednesday 23rd February at 11:30am. The effects of the Volcano and Tsunami on January 15th will be far-reaching, impacting the Tonga Community for months, possibly years to come.
Communication remains problematic with international and inter-island call still no possible due to the damage to the undersea cable.
Rotary Australia World Community Service (RAWCS) will be working with Rotary New Zealand World Community Service (RNZWCS) and Rotary Club of Nuku’alofa (Tonga) in providing aid and assistance to the affected communities’ and restoring their livelihoods.
RAWCS has registered a Rotary Australia Relief Fund project to seek financial assistance from Rotary Clubs, the public and private sector.
Donations to the RAWCS Relief Fund are tax deductible.

Eclub Sydney Rotary member  Lucy Hobgood Brown who lives in WinghamWe are looking for new accommodation for the 3 Congolese remaining in the Manning.  They seek shared houses with access to a kitchen and bathrooms, no more than $150/week.

John Kingo – mid-30s, separated from his wife and 3 kids who live in Newcastle, lives in Wingham but aims to move to Taree. He is also looking for any type of work and hopes to find a job where he can walk to work. The ETC employment office in Taree is assisting him with the job search but all leads are welcome. He speaks basic English and French.

Esperance (“Hope” in French) and Bien-Fait (“Well done” in French) are cousins, both 21, hope to live in same house within walking distance of Wingham Beef.

Thank you for any suggestions you may have. - Lucy

Fr Peter Tinney and Fiona Tinney are being assigned to a new parish at East Lake Macquarie by Easter this year.  It is with sadness that we will lose not just good friends but great Rotarians but pretty sure our loss is someone else's gain as they continue their community service wherever they go! All the best Peter and Fiona!
"It has been a privilege to serve... thank you all for your friendship and support"
- Fr Peter Tinney
“This is your great-grandma and great grandpa,” I told my grandson as I handed him a photo of my parents. “Do you think I look like them?” He shook his head. “Not yet.”
